About the Mandala
Mandalas, simply put, are circular drawings that bring order out of
chaos. Mandala is the ancient
Sanskrit word for circle, and mandalas are found across cultures and time.
Mandalas are used in meditation, and are found in many religions around the
world. I have used mandalas
simply as a tool for focusing, de-stressing, and self-expression. Hurricane Katrina and Rita survivors
found pre-drawn geometric mandalas soothing to colour – sometimes the
only un-worried time they spent was in colouring these mandalas. I have used mandala creation in
women’s group of self-expression – fill in circles with
colours, shapes, words or materials such as feathers, stones, jewels,
ribbons. What ever way you use
this form of art, it is fulfilling, creative, and always turns out
beautifully!
